Dry skin.
Flaky sore, inflamed patches.
Itchy spots that would drive even the sanest person to irritability.
And of course, we cannot forget the unsightly blemishes!
This, I know all too well. I suffered from chronic eczema for the majority of my life to no avail. Growing up, eczema was not as prominent a condition as it is now- at least in my neck of the woods. Outbreaks were the most uncomfortable and sometimes embarrassing times in my life. From glaring glances, to some of the rudest comments, I fought to keep the outbreaks at minimum and to prevent the monster from controlling my self esteem. Fortunately through the years, I learned to manage using skin sensitive soaps, like Dove or Neutrogena, as well as mild lotions like Cetaphil.
However, inside I was constantly disappointed. Let’s face it… I am all things “girl” and I love makeup, perfume, and wonderfully smelling lotions and body scrubs.  I learned that makeup wasn’t too much of a culprit and if I didn’t spray the fragrance directly on my skin, I could get away with that too!
But body scrubs and scented lotions were completely off limits.
I can’t begin to tell you how many times I had to “re-gift” or return the beautifully scented lotions and body scrubs given to me for what seemed like every major holiday! I’d pass by Bath & Body Works in the mall and take long whiffs, wishing I could take the luxurious bubble baths “as seen on TV!” After some time, early in adulthood, I accepted my eczema and skin sensitivity restrictions and decided that instead of pouting, I’d make baby powder scent my signature and just be happy!
Sometime in 2010, I made the decision to wear my hair natural with no relaxers and chemicals. While searching online for some natural hair styles, I ran across articles in different forums about natural skin care and began exploring items that would be great for eczema and skin sensitivities.
The Heavens opened! Can you imagine my excitement? Not only were there amazing products, they smelled delightful! I’ve been on a “natural high” ever since, now fully enjoying soaps, body wash, body scrubs, and even bubble bath!
In the recent months, I’ve had an opportunity to use skin products from Sénica, a company that specializes in solutions for eczema, dermatitis and other common ailments. The products are made in New Orleans by owner, Benardett Jno-Finn and are inspired by influences from her Caribbean background.  Benardett has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from New York State’s Syracuse University and while in school, suffered from eczema and psoriasis.  She used her combined educational knowledge and personal experience to develop effective, holistic products for proper care of the skin and hair.
Sénica products are made with high quality, moisturizing, and therapeutic natural ingredients providing satisfaction from head to toe! I especially love the brown sugar scrubs in the scents “Sweetness,” and “Caress Me.” The scrubs give a light exfoliation and leave fragrant oil on the skin to seal in the moisture.  Also, the Lanbéli Shea Moisturizer is a lavender scented, soothing cream that is great for application after a shower and provides lasting moisture for my skin.  I can’t forget the Bath Fizzies which offer a luxurious bath treat that lets me “relax and unwind as I soak my way to silky smooth skin.” I highly recommend this line to anyone with dry skin ailments and especially for all “girly girls” who’d like to experience a rejuvenating “as seen on TV” bath! I’m truly thankful that now, instead of “re-gifting,” I can share the gift of an amazing skin care company.
All Senica’s products are handmade with natural ingredients, including bay leaves, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil and essential oils of lavender, orange and tea tree. This fragrant and mineral-rich apothecary of nature’s choicest blends remains dedicated to celebrating a Natural. Beautiful. You.”-
